Did you recently post a new piece of content to your website but it’s not showing up on Google? Use these 5 tips to help your website content appear in the search results and index faster.
1. Submit Your Content to Google Search Console
Google Search Console is a free SEO tool provided by Google. If you don’t have an account, create one here: https://search.google.com/search-console/welcome
Once created, there are two main steps to take.
- Create a sitemap.xml file and submit it to Search Console’s sitemap tool.
- Submit your new content’s URL to GSC’s URL inspector tool
2. Create Internal Links
One of the best ways to help content index faster is to link to it from other pages on your website, specifically pages that already receive a high amount of traffic. This SEO tactic is often referred to as internal linking.
Not only will this help your content index quicker, but it is also an effective SEO strategy for helping your content rank higher in the search results.
When linking to content throughout your site, be sure to use diverse and informative anchor text.
Anchor text explains what the page being linked to is all about in a few concise keywords.
3. Add a Link to the Main Navigation
The main navigation is one of the first sections of a website Google analyzes and crawls. Generally, pages linked in the main nav are important pages in the eyes of Google. Linking to content from the nav will improve the odds Google crawls the new URL and indexes it faster.
Depending on the type of content you are looking to have indexed this isn’t always an option.
For example, if you published a new blog post you might not want to have this added to your main nav. However, if you created a new service page or product category page, it might make sense to add it to your main nav.
4. Earn Backlinks to the Page
Backlinks are an essential component to every great SEO strategy. In simple terms, a backlink is when another website links to your website.
We could do a whole lesson on what backlinks are and how to earn them, but for now try these strategies to earn a few backlinks and help your new content rank:
- Find a blog article on another website and request a link to your new content.
- Submit a press release and link to the new content in the write up.
- List your page on public forums like Quora or Reddit.
5. Share Content on Social Media
Sharing content on social media doesn’t inherently improve Google rankings, but it will pass signals to Google and make your article index faster. If you write a great article and receive referral traffic from social media sites, Google will surely notice the activity and start showing the content in the search results.
